Getting settled
2005-08-12

It's been a wild week. Taking three 8-hour trips to/from the interior within a few days, finding a place to live, and starting work...

Today I managed to get internet access once again: horray! It's been a rather funny week; work has been a bit hectic (learning great new stuff, but lots of attempts at solving problems with only half the pieces). I've been snickering for the last couple days about a red dwarf quote which is quite relevant:

RIMMER: CHOOOO!!! If there is one thing I can't stand it's crazy people.
LISTER: Well we've passed the test, Rimmer. You can let us out.
RIMMER: I can't let you out.
LISTER: Why not?
RIMMER: Because the King of the Potato People won't let me. I begged him. I got down on my knees and wept. He wants to keep you here. Keep you here for ten years.
CAT: Could we see him?
RIMMER: See who?
CAT: The King.
RIMMER: Do you have a magic carpet?
LISTER: Yeah, a little three-seater.
RIMMER: So, let me get this straight. You want to fly on a magic carpet to see the King of the Potato People and plead with him for your freedom, and you're telling me you are completely sane?! I think that warrants 2 hours of W.O.O.
LISTER: What's W.O.O?
CAT: You had to ask.
RIMMER: With ... out ... oxygen. No oxygen for 2 hours. That will teach you to be bread baskets.

You see, a representative from the an international potato organization (a potential client) showed up at Refractions; in other words: the king of the potato people... ok, maybe you had to be there and the rest of the quote isn't relevant, but who cares. I helped out getting things ready for the demo, although the other developers are way over my head for the moment. Anyways, I went to the observatory last night and saw some awesome stars and a few meteors. I'm back with the Outdoors Club and the PIH running club: out for a jog tomorrow morning at Thetis Lake, and Kayaking on Sunday.
